When Should You Hire a Professional Cleaning Service?

Have you ever hired a professional cleaning service for your house? I’m pretty much a DIYer when it comes to cleaning my home but there are definitely times it would be beneficial to have help. As a reader of i Dream of Clean, you’re probably in the same boat. But even though you clean your house most of the time, hiring a professional periodically may help you more than you know. Here are a few top of mind reasons to call in the professionals:

Hectic schedule

Most people will admit that they’re too busy. Their calendar is full and they have little margin in their life. It’s their way of life. It may be your life! But, I’m sure you know that there’s busy…and then there’s BUSY! You know, those times when you think you’re going to explode if someone gives you one more deadline or has one more request.

Times like this may be the perfect opportunity to let someone else clean your house for you. It will allow you to spend your time on the more important tasks and focus on the things that only you can do.

Time Value

There’s a little term I learned in undergrad called time value. It’s basically the additional dollar amount your time is worth by being available.

Let’s say it takes you 2 hours to deep clean your home. If you could spend that two hours making $115 and it would only cost $50 to have someone clean your house, then the value added by being available to work is $65.

You would come out ahead financially by allowing someone to help you clean.

Season of Life

Some seasons are just more difficult than others. Perhaps you’re caring for an aging parent, have just become a new mom (or new again mom), started a new job, are in charge of year end at work, an unexpected funeral is taking place, wedding plans have overtaken your life…the examples are endless. If you find yourself learning how to cope with your new responsibilities, maybe you can reduce the stress just by hiring someone to do something as simple as clean your home.

Jump Start

Sometimes you’re just overwhelmed at home. You might technically have the time to clean your house, but you’re so overwhelmed with stuff that you don’t know where to start! Perhaps you can maintain pretty well but you don’t have the patience or tools to deep clean something like your windows. Having someone clean your house may just be the jump start you need to get you back on track so you can do the day to day maintenance.

When it comes to hiring a professional cleaning service, people are often reluctant to spend the money. Myself included! But, if you think about it, we are constantly making choices using this above criteria. When we’re overwhelmed in life, we grab food at a restaurant even thought it costs twice as much as making the same meal at home, we pay for someone to change the oil in our car even though it would cost 15% less to learn to change it ourselves, we pay for a babysitter so we can have a date night and keep our marriage strong. We make choices about what’s on and off our to-do list every day. Perhaps we should periodically take cleaning off the list!

What about you? Have you ever had someone clean your house?

I have had someone clean my house on occasion, the first time she did great everything was immaculate. and after that she would just speed clean, and not clean as throroughly. And I would have to re clean to my liking, So to me it wasn’t worth it, and I am saving $65.00 every two weeks.

I have worked as a professional cleaner, and a lot of people have cleaners in for just the reasons you give.

If you ever have a cleaner in and find you are unhappy with the work done, call them, or call the service. If they can’t or won’t make it right or do better next time, don’t give up but rather try another service.

Many cleaners are skilled, conscientious, and truly care about their clients’ well-being and happiness. Like most dedicated workers, we take pride in the quality and find the work rewarding.

Any advice on tipping a professional housecleaner?

Not sure if it helps: It’s a 1-time cleaning for 6-hours. Not sure if it’s 1 person coming for 6-hours, 2 people coming for 3-hours, or if it’s 3 people coming for 2-hours.

I’ve tried a cleaning service before and liked it but it was a one-time, I have a Groupon or Living Social deal. I’m about to get my home cleaned by another service, a deal I got from Angie’s List. I’m just so overwhelmed and a cleaning service will probably think of areas to clean that I wouldn’t have thought of. The only thing I don’t like is feeling like I have to clean for the cleaning person but I’d rather get the value of my money by them not having to waste time going around clutter or trying to figure out where it goes.
