Keep Bugs and Insects from Biting You

Are you (or your kids) attacked by mosquitoes the moment you walk outdoors? Do you purposefully stay indoors during the summer to stay away from the bugs?

If you answered yes to either of those questions, we need to find a solution so you can enjoy your time outdoors!

Since you sent in such great information about keeping ants away I thought we’d have another interactive post.

What do you do to keep mosquitoes away? Leave your best tips in the comments, send them to me on twitter or facebook and I’ll add them to this post with a link to you. I’ll get us started.

How to keep mosquitoes and other insects away

Dryer Sheets

Keep dryer sheets in your pockets and/or rub the dryer sheets on your skin and clothes before going outside. They act as an insect repellant.

Onion

Rub a slice of onion over your skin to keep mosquitoes and other insects away. (I don’t think I’ll try this! If you do, let me know!)

Citrus Peels

Rub citrus peels (oranges, lemons, limes) on skin keep bugs away.

Vanilla Extract

Mix one cup of water and one tablespoon of vanilla extract (make sure corn syrup isn’t listed in the ingredients or it will make you sticky!). Bugs will stay away if you spray on your skin.

What great ideas! We have awful gnats in our backyard that seem to just multiple if you think about them. I’ve heard about the dryer sheets, but we don’t usually use them, so I’ve never tried it. But the vanilla one I’m gonna have to give a shot!

I don’t have any tips to add…but can’t wait to try the dryer sheets on myself & my kids! I get bit like crazy and HATE mosquito repellant…so sticky & stinky! I wouldn’t mind smelling like a dryer sheet and it shouldn’t leave a sticky feeling! Also, my kids get bit up, too…might be easier to hold them still long enough to rub a dryer sheet on them than to spray that icky stuff on them! Thanks for the tip!

I’ve heard of the dryer sheet, but never tried it. I will this year! I have a little one that I don’t want to spray with repellent! I also want to try the vanilla. Thanks for the tips!

I have tried the dryer sheets and it worked well for me . I rub dryer sheet over hair, body, and clothing then I stick a dryer sheet in my front pocket or waistband of pants or skirts then if I have a pony tail in then I tuck one into it. also you can tuck one into your bra for all of us ladies. Smells great. No sticky stinky stuff.
