5 Ways to Save TONS of Time on Cleaning and Organizing The Home

in cleaning schedule, Guest

The following is a gust post from Prerna at The Mom Writes.

One of my biggest challenges as a work-at-home mom and blogger is that I have to spread my day out in such a way that I can manage my home, grow my business and blog while taking care of my husband and daughter. It isn’t easy. But over the years, I’ve learnt a few tricks that have helped me cut down on my cleaning and organizing activities.

Curious? Ready to save some time yourself?

Here you go:

1. Clean As You Go

Yes, cleaning as you go is a great way to reduce overwhelm. Whether it is wiping down countertops in the kitchen while you wait for the soup to simmer or wiping the bathroom floor clean after you shower, cleaning as you go is a great way to get things done in half the time.

2. Always Have a Stocked Cleaning Kit

I always keep my handy-dandy cleaning kit fully stocked and have a nifty stain removal printable included as well to help me get stains out ASAP and keep things nice and fresh.

3. Put Things Back  Where They Belong

This is a simple thing but many of us forget or underestimate its importance. Naturally, when you can’t find something, you get stressed and irritable. No one likes an irritable mama, right? So, keep things back where they belong. You can have a twice-a-day pickup routine like me where I go through the different rooms and pick up everything that doesn’t belong and return them to their rightful places. Barely takes 15 minutes per routine but saves me TONS of time.

4. Have a Basic Clean Home Routine for Every Day

While my home is far from picture-perfect, I have a basic clean home routine that includes making the beds, folding the laundry, straightening the living room along with the pick-up routine mentioned above that keeps our home reasonably neat and clean.  I do all of this in 30 minutes before I sit down to work and it makes me feel really good about getting these knocked off right at the start of the day.

5. Enlist Help

Finally, it is a good idea to enlist help. Family members can pitch in with chores and do their bit to keep the house neat and clean. Whether it is putting their stuff where it belongs or unloading the dishwasher, assign a few chores to everyone to lighten your load. If you feel the need, you may even hire professionals to clean your home for you every now and then. Find a solution that works best for your home and your life’s season.

Need more practical ways to expand your day as a mom, entrepreneur or blogger? Set up successful systems so that you have time to do what matters to you? Identify time management lies that we all tell and learn how to stop doing that? I’m sure you’d LOVE it, right?

Clean as you go is my best tip! I’m pretty good at it but my husband is a master. I’ve learned a lot by watching him.
