Step 13 :: Clean the Plasticware/Storage Container Cabinet
Plasticware. It stains. It doesn’t dry when you wash it in the dishwasher. And it’s almost impossible to keep organized in your cabinets. At least when it’s stored in the cabinet the baby likes to play in!
If you can’t tell, I’m sort of over plastic containers. I actually have my eye on these 3 cup glass rectangle storage containers. They stack nicely and hold a decent amount of leftovers. But they’re a little pricy in my opinion so I may just have to replace our plasticware over time.
For now, though, I personally need to organize my tupperware cabinet.
Do you? If so, give that cabinet some attention today.
- Check to see if each container has a lid.
- Determine if you actually use the sets you have and donate/trash what you don’t need.
- Stack remaining containers nicely (either with the lid on or off).
- Make a note of what you need to replace.
This task shouldn’t take too long so take a few minutes today straghtening up the storage container cabinet.

This time of year I clean out my plastics and set the junky, mismatched, no lid containers in a bag in my laundry room in preparation for Thanksgiving. I use these second rate containers for sending leftovers to others’ homes. It kills two birds with one stone. The first year we were embarrassed, but our guests were so happy that it made it worthwhile.

My “Tupperware” cupboard is one that I’m supremely proud of. We have three types of containers, Pyrex rounds (almost all from the Corningware outlet– they run sales, so it’s the cheapest place to get them!), Lock&Lock containers, and GlassLock containers. They’re all stacked neatly by size, with their lids on. I’ve never lost a lid, since they’re always stored closed and the lid goes through the dishwasher with its container. My mom had a typical stacked Tupperware drawer and a lids drawer, and it was always a pain to find the pieces, so this is my little “rebellion.” But it makes such a difference! It takes up more cupboard space, but it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make :)
See if you have a Corningware outlet near you. You may be able to afford the Pyrex more easily than you thought :)

I know I’m a little late (since my feed is so cluttered) but my local TJ Maxx has Pyrex! I’m throwing those gross plastics out for glass. I got 2-11 cup rectangles, 2-7 cup rectangles, and 2-4 cup round containers at $5 apiece.
