Do the Dishes :: Your Guide to a Clean & Organized Kitchen :: Step 1

in 31 days to a clean and organized kitchen, Kitchen

[pinit]

The kitchen is the most used room in the house. At least it is in MY house. We cook, clean, rinse, repeat…day after day. And it shows. That’s why I’m so excited to begin this 31 day journey with you!

The goal this month is to make your kitchen the best it can be. If you have the kitchen of your dreams, great! If you don’t, that’s okay. I want you to embrace the kitchen you have and make it work for you!

Are you ready? Let’s go!

Day 1 :: Do the Dishes

Our task for today should be a simple one for most, but it’s the best place to start.

The first step is to do the dishes. Clear the counters and sink. Load and start the dishwasher if you have one. Hand wash anything that won’t fit.

In the morning (or later today if you have time), unload the dishwasher so you can refill it as you go.

Make it a habit this month to clean your kitchen every night and unload the dishwasher/dishrack each morning.

If this is already part of your routine, great! You got off easy today :) If not, now is a perfect time to start. It will make the rest of the month much easier!

By the way, if you’re already overwhelmed with step one, my friend has a step by step guide to help you get in the habit of doing your dishes. I’ve read it. And it will work if you do what she says. It’s called 28 Days to Hope for Your Home and she’s giving you a discount during this series. Just click here and enter the discount code DREAM to get it for $4.

Make sure to check out the rest of the clean and organize kitchen series!

I’m a wife. I’m a mom. And I don’t like to clean! With a house full of boys, though, cleaning is inevitable. That's why I've made it my mission to find the best organizing and cleaning tips. Hopefully, those tips will help us spend less time cleaning and more time with the ones we love.

It is an easy one, but if I don’t stay on top of it, it can be a bear! My husband and I are constantly cooking and making big messes in the kitchen not to mention the dishes for each meal. I can’t wait until my kids grow up to start helping more. Actually my 3 year old can help me unload the dishwasher pretty good! Great start!

I was reading this out loud and my husband laughed. Why? Because I never let anyone empty the dishwasher (he has been allowed a couple times). lol I actually would rather not have a dishwasher, I really only use mine for big meals. Looking forward to more! Have a great day!

We actually got rid of our dishwasher, since it didn’t work most of the time and now dishes get cleaned more often.

Austin and I just had this conversation Sunday night! lol It really does help a lot. Of course, we are either rarely home right now or blessed to be eating an abundance of leftovers (like flatbread pizza), so it hasn’t been as big of an issue as it usually is. :)

I just started an Excel spreadsheet with a one line statement describing the tip and then next to it a weblink to that tip. I try as I go but I know I will need to review these again to set them in stone!

Thank you for the tips

I’m going to start on this today-even though it’s months later than your post. I have been so overwhelmed on where to start, so this first step is perfect. Thank you.
