I don’t know about you, but the kitchen is the most used room in my house. Three square meals plus a couple of snacks each day, means cooking…and cleaning galore.
You probably know that cleaning as you go is the ideal way to keep a kitchen clean. But if you have a hungry husband, a toddler running around, and a baby at your feet (and in your cabinets), that may not always be possible. It may not ever be possible!
Sometimes you just have to scrounge through the cabinets leaving them a mess, leave scraps that fell to the floor, mix on high, cook too fast and pray the splatters on your wall don’t dry before you get a chance to wipe them up.
Sometimes…just sometimes, the kitchen becomes so much of a disaster that the typical daily cleanup doesn’t do it justice. Every once in a while the kitchen just needs a complete overhaul to become functional again.
That’s why I want to invite you to come with me on a thirty-one day journey to make your kitchen clean and organized. To make it a room where you can find every piece of equipment you need. A room that doesn’t store equipment you don’t need. A place where you know what ingredients you have and which ones you need to get. A room that isn’t crammed but feels spacious, even if it’s technically tiny. To make the kitchen a room you enjoy.
A clean and organized kitchen IS possible. And it can become a reality just by doing one small step each day.
Every day in October, you’ll find one task posted below that will guide you in making your kitchen a room you enjoy. You can come back to this page to find a link to your daily task, or you can follow along on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest. You can also find some other great challenges at The Nester.
Will you join me? I can’t wait!

I’m so in too!! Do I ever need it … when will it start?!
Well, yes, that’s important information isn’t it :) It will start October 1!
Oh I sooo need this. I have a tiny kitchen and a family of 7!
I am soooo ready for this. HELP!
I definitely need this! I have been trying to so hard to get this kitchen act together!
I really need to do this! Last night we pulled out 2 hand mixers and 8 bowls, ridiculous!
I am definitely in , this is VERY much needed in our house right now!!
I’m in!!! Excited to get started!
WAHOO!!! Can’t wait! And thanks!
count me in!! I need this!! Thanks!
I am in!! My kitchen is a MESS!!
i am soin, i cant wait
Wow do I ever need this! and not just in our kitchen (which is connected to the dining room which is connected to the family room on one side and the living room on the other side… can you say a fairly open “T”?) Now if only our teenage boys would step up to the bat on this…. for years they were great but in the past few months have started leaving stuff out ALL over the place! Looking forward to this… and have already started implementing a couple of little things… such as making sure the sink and countertop is cleared and cleaned every sink night!
I just straightened out my kitchen. Seems when the kids put things away, they can be kind of lazy in putting them away in proper places. Since they went back to school on the 4th, I got that all back in order. :)
I have a cleaning question that I need help with. We installed hand scraped tongue and groove 5″ oak planks in our house. Love the flooring except for the bevels. When I use a swifter it wants to push the dirt into the bevels, so I have to use vacuum instead. I am looking for a stick vacuum that has enough power to suck up the dirt. Do you have any suggestions on which brand would be the best to buy? Also, what kind of cleaner do you recommend to use on the flooring? Right now I use a Simple Green and water mixture. Thank you for your help.
Does this start 10/01? Is it an email challenge or do you subscribe?

I’m excited! I have been saying to my husband that I just don’t know where to start.
Starting is often the hard part :)

How much time a day do you figure each step takes?
Oh, I would love to be part of this! If I can just get a routine going………..!
I’M IN I REALLY NEED IT
What a wonderful idea! The kitchen is definitely the heart of a home, isn’t it? If the kitchen is a mess, everything is a mess. Thanks so much for sharing this blog series!
