Apparently everyone in my city has Clorox Anywhere Spray on their back to school list because I’ve been to 6 stores and all are out of stock. Since it’s so popular, I did a little search on their website to see what all the fuss was about.
According to the Clorox website in the FAQ section:
What is in Clorox® Anywhere® Hard Surface™ daily sanitizing spray?
Clorox® Anywhere® Hard Surface™ daily sanitizing spray starts with very pure water and refined bleach. The product is then pH balanced so that it remains both gentle and effective for a full year. The concentration of sodium hypochlorite (bleach) in Clorox® Anywhere® Hard Surface™ daily sanitizing spray is 0.0095%. The result is a product that is gentle as water, but strong enough to kill 99.9% of common household bacteria on hard, nonporous surfaces. This means it is gentle enough to use on surfaces around kids, pets and food.
So basically, the container of Clorox Anywhere spray is mostly water with a dash of bleach.
I didn’t want to rely on my own brainpower since bleach was involved so with the help of ol’ interweb, I ran the following calculations:
.0095 x 22 ounce container = .21 ounces of bleach in a container of Clorox Anywhere Spray
There are 6 teaspoons in an ounce, so there’s about 1 1/2 teaspoons of bleach in a container of Clorox Anywhere Spray.
Since you can get 1 1/2 teaspoons of bleach for about a penny, you can save some big bucks by making your own Clorox Anywhere Spray!
If only I could send a couple teaspoons of bleach to my son’s teacher so we can cross off our back to school supply list…

From the description and name of the product, it was exactly what I thought you said it was. Water with a dash of bleach in it. But the cost break down is astonishing! The only downfall, will teachers/schools accept homemade version if they’ve put it on the children’s annual school supply list?
I’ll gladly give you the five-year-old bottle under my sink that probably needs to be dumped if you want to fill it with your solution and send it to school. :)
