Clean Your Kitchen in 5 Minutes or Less (Video)

in Kitchen

How to clean your kitchen in 5 minutes or less is one of the most popular posts here on i Dream of Clean. We can all relate because we spend so much time cooking in the kitchen that it can feel like we’re always cleaning it.

In a perfect world, we would unload the dishwasher each morning and load it with dishes as we use them. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always (ever?) happen.

If you find yourself with a disaster of a kitchen one day, set a goal of 5 minutes, start the timer, and work as fast as you can. Here’s my first ever…eeek! video tutorial on how I clean my kitchen in 5 minutes or less!

If you can’t see the video, click here: How to Clean Your Kitchen in 5 Minutes or Less Video

I’d love for you to give it a try!

Set a timer, start cleaning, and report back here how long it took you. It may take practice but before you know it, you’ll be cleaning your kitchen in 5 minutes!

I’m a wife. I’m a mom. And I don’t like to clean! With a house full of boys, though, cleaning is inevitable. That's why I've made it my mission to find the best organizing and cleaning tips. Hopefully, those tips will help us spend less time cleaning and more time with the ones we love.

I do not have a dishwasher. I find that the best way to keep my kitchen clean is to clean up while I am cooking. I put things back in the fridge and cupboards as I cook. I fill the sink warm sudsy water and wash dishes as I cook. All trash goes immediately in the waste can.

I think this is very encouraging in that it reminds us that picking up a kitchen doesn’t mean setting aside an entire day. But it really is that — picking up — isn’t it? I wash dishes as I work, have taught the kids to put their dishes straight into the dishwasher, empty the washer every morning, and wipe down the counter repeatedly throughout the day. Actual *cleaning* involves wiping down cupboard doors, scouring the sink, shining the backsplash, sweeping and mopping, etc.

I have a HUGE mess in my kitchen today. I guess I’ll set my timer and see if I can clean it up. I’m going to unload the dishwasher first because that takes 5 min at least! Great video!

I have a senior that likes to ‘help’ or think he’s cleaned up the kitchen when he’s done using it (throughout the day) but it doesn’t end up being so *lol* I follow a similar routine that I do each night before bed. Its as habitual as brushing my teeth before bed and if I don’t do it, I feel that there’s something wrong or missing.

Literally each night, I will gather up stray dishes, retrieve hubby’s lunch bag and travel mug from hubby’s backpack and pile onto the kitchen counter; prep the coffee machine for the morning (so all I have to do is turn it on while I pack hubby’s lunch) and load the dishwasher then hand wash remaining items as needed. Last step, wipe down the counters & stove.

It literally takes about 5 minutes or so and honestly, once you’re into the swing of things, it seems like it only takes a minute. Five minutes for sanity = totally worth it. :)

Christine! you’re looking super cute!! I do try to do this every night but it’s hard sometimes. Mostly I hate waking up to feed the baby and walking into a messy kitchen.

The only thing missing from this video is the kids climbing on the dishwasher door or hanging on my legs. OH or their toys I trip over. :) Okay, I can do it turning naptime! Great video – loved it!

Great video! It really does help to set a timer and make the focused effort for a short time–on any area of the house that needs attention. I also find that if I run a sink of sudsy water before I start cooking, it’s natural and easy to clean as I go. Then my kitchen cleanup isn’t as huge a job at the end of the day. Two of my kids are old enough to load their own dishes into the dishwasher throughout the day (and unload it in the morning), so that helps a lot, too.

Good video!

Using a timer to get your tasks done is the best idea and it shows us how little time it actually takes us to finish jobs we’ve been putting off — often just five, ten or fifteen minutes, which is nothing!

I can relate to your five-minute cleanup using “sets” in the process, i.e. collecting “like” things. This is also how I iron and how I go through clutter. It seems to make faster progress and give more of a sense of satisfaction from getting it done.
Have you ever looked at Flylady.net? I think you’d relate!

I have done timer cleaning for years.. I did learn a lot from your video about keeping like things together.. I hadn’t thought of that. I use timer cleaning in all parts of my house.. I used to hate to empty the dishwasher but then I timed myself and found it takes 5 minutes or less and that’s not even racing the clock. I’ve had some health problems so depending on how I’m feeling I use 5, 10 or 15 minute blocks of time. Looking forward to exploring your page more. Thanks :)

I usually feel the same way about unloading the dishwasher. Isn’t it funny how cleaning up doesn’t take as much time as we think.

Healthy and safety are definitely more important than speed so keep up the good work!
