A Beach Bag Essential!

in Clean Beauty, Seasonal

My family and I just returned from a much needed vacation to one of our favorite summer spots…the beach!

Every day we spent a couple of hours in the sand and then another few hours at the pool. Thanks to my patient husband, our oldest is now completely comfortable in a swimming pool and can dog paddle from one side to the other. I may even venture to take him and the baby to our community pool by myself this summer…we shall see!

While memories were definitely made at the pool, hanging out at the beach and playing in the ocean was the highlight of each day. We played in the water, built sand castles, and buried our son up to his neck!

All that sand, however, makes a BIG mess! Sand can stick to a sweaty, sun-block covered body like a second skin.

Fortunately, there is an incredibly easy way to remove sand and keep it from sticking to your skin: Baby Powder.

How to use baby powder to remove sand from skin:

  • Pour ample amount of baby powder into hands.
  • Rub hands together and “wash” them like you would soap and water.
That’s it. It really is that easy.

This tip is incredibly helpful if you like to pack snacks to eat at the beach but don’t care for the taste of sand! Of course, it can also be used on feet, legs, arms, or basically anywhere you don’t want sand sticking. Baby powder truly is a beach bag essential!

What’s a must-have in your beach bag?

My must have doesn’t do anything, but it sure makes me happy. It is a good book. I am happiest when laying on the beach, the sound of the surf in my ears, and the words of a good book in my eyes. We are leaving for the beach tomorrow and I have already packed my books and sun block.

Ooo, yes a good book is very important for the beach!!! Unfortunately, my kids are going to have to get a few years older before I get that luxury again…or perhaps I should bring a babysitter…hmmm :)

Enjoy your trip!!!

Oh my goodness! This was by far the most helpful thing I have come across. I nanny for two year old twins who love the sandbox at the park. It’s always been a hassle to clean them both before snack time when there is only one of me. Thanks for the idea!

Do you wash with baby powder before they go in the sand or after the sand is on their hands to get the sand off? Thanks, I love this tip!

It works great after their hands are are sandy. The sand comes right off!! :)

An alternative that we bring to the beach is a brush, either a paint brush or clean dustpan brush, you sweep the sand of the skin – works a treat!

FYI, if you put the powder in a knee hi, it makes easier to take sand off. this way the power doesn’t fly with the wind and stays contained

I have done this for years, it’s great, another great alternative is corn flour :)

This really is GREAT! Work like a charm no rash from sand in “places”. Started using it when are girls were small. They are now in their 20′s and don’t go to the beach without baby powder!

I’m a massage therapist & we just started implementing a sugar foot scrub as an add-on, but just last night I was griping about how hard it is to remove the scrub in order to apply the lotion & massage the foot, because the grains inevitable stay behind! I’m going to give this a try…I just have to experiment to determine how little I can get away w/using so as to not leave behind a white powdery mess!

Thanks for the great tip!!
