It’s Time to Create a Spring Cleaning Plan

in spring cleaning

In case you haven’t heard :) we have a Spring Cleaning Challenge going on for the next few weeks. I have absolutely loved the excitement many of you have expressed in the comments and would be thrilled for the rest of you to participate!

In case you’re worried about the time commitment, let me assure you that Spring Cleaning can be as simple or complex as you want to make it. It  can be completed in a day or take a month. Whatever amount of time you have to clean this Spring, the best way to make sure you do something related to Spring Cleaning is to have a plan.

I don’t know about you, but I have a tendency to read a great book or blog post, get excited about the subject matter and then…do nothing. So instead of just reading (or writing in my case) about Spring Cleaning this year, let’s work together to actually have a cleaner home when this challenge is over.

Sound good?

I promise it can be done! Just print this customizable Spring Cleaning Checklist, walk through your house and write down the action items you want to complete by the end of this challenge.

That’s exactly what I just did.

Here’s a little glimpse of what I’m going to be cleaning during the next few weeks…

My Spring Cleaning Plan

 Supplies Needed:

  • Aggregate crack filler
  • Touch-up paint

Kitchen:

Bathroom(s):

  • Scrub shower
  • Clean bathtubs
  • Clean toilets (inside and out)
  • Use toothbrush in all the nooks and crannies
  • Organize vanities
  • Organize bathroom closet
  • Clean light fixtures (and get rid of the bug that’s been in there for months!)

Laundry Room:

  • Put items in boxes
  • Organize cart
  • Bleach washer drum

Living Room:

  • Shake out rug and vacuum
  • Get spot off couch
  • Clean chair cushion

Bonus Room:

  • Organize/Eliminate Books on Bookshelves
  • Kids chair
  • Wipe down and vacuum couch
  • Rotate ceiling fan

Master Bedroom:

  • Hem curtains
  • Dust bed-frame
  • Wash/Change Sheets
  • Flip Mattress
  • Organize nightstand drawers
  • Organize dresser
  • Wash Lamp

Bedroom 2 & 3:

  • Surprisingly, all good.
  • I just need to remember floors and windows.

Office:

  • File paperwork
  • Disinfect computer keyboard
  • Dust desk

Garage/Outdoor:

  • Fill in cracks in driveway
  • Mulch
  • Replace hose pipe
  • Hang tools on wall
  • Stain deck

Overall House:

  • Clean windows
  • Wipe down doors and moldings (seriously, how do they get so dirty?)
  • Vacuum/Mop floors in the entire house (move furniture)
  • Touch-up paint
  • Go through all drawers/closets/cabinets/shelves to eliminate unnecessary items

That’s my list to accomplish over the next 3 weeks. There may be a few roadblocks but I’m going to do my very best to cross off everything on the list!

What about you? Have you put together your Spring Cleaning game plan?

I’m a wife. I’m a mom. And I don’t like to clean! With a house full of boys, though, cleaning is inevitable. That's why I've made it my mission to find the best organizing and cleaning tips. Hopefully, those tips will help us spend less time cleaning and more time with the ones we love.

What an awesome list! I have the rooms I am organizing scheduled out.
{I am a tad behind since the family has the FLU}

I like to walk in the room and just start working. First I scan and collect obvious trash. Second I pick up and sort into 3 baskets: to go in the basement, to go upsatirs and to donate.

Then I take what’s left – clean and reorgainze.

I love to spring clean-One thing I do is empty all cabinets-wipe out and replace all shelf liners, same with drawers I use wallpaper (big roll, lot’s of great patterns and durable) I also empty all closets wash and /or vac. walls, esp corners! then I reorganize. I also get above all the door frames and window frames, baseboards and each and every corner in house-so many people never do the details. I take all the pictures down clean glass and rehang (I vac. every week) I also take down any washable window treatments and wash/iron and hang. Take down the blinds give a good scrub. Change out all my rugs to my spring/summer ones. Change all my accessories for spring/summer.Change my pillows to new ones throw out the old.

You are awesome! Using wallpaper for the drawer liners is brilliant! Are you up for a guest post about that? :)

I would love that but I haven’t ever done anything like that before-

I printed my list and will finish it tomorrow. Thanks for hosting this…it is much needed! I’ve never really done much spring cleaning but I really want to this year.

Julie, that’s quite the list! Good idea about the closets. Half of my closets never really got organized well in the chaos of our move last fall and this would be a good opportunity to deal with that.

Well this is the year to do it! :) Feel free to start slow…and maybe just focus on one thing. Improvement is the key… not perfectionism.

Thanks for posting this. Reminded me of some things I definitely need to do. I’ve never really Spring cleaned before. Just do my weekly cleaning routine and maintain. Hopefully I can make this happen!

You will have such a feeling of ahh at the end of all this. I forgot to mention and you may already do this but I vacuum the back and sides of all my upholstry too (I do this weekly) but many people do it only for spring cleaning and I vaccum the bottom of all tables and shelves. I have a lot of ideas and tips and stuff if I can help but i am sure your home is wonderful. Happy Sunday
