Shortcut for Cleaning a Blender

For the past two weeks I’ve been weaning myself off sugar because I. am. addicted. For a sugar addict like me, it is so hard to give it up cold turkey!

Can anyone relate?

In order to trick myself into thinking I’m getting some sort of treat, I’ve been blending smoothies (or “milkshakes” as my son calls them) to drink. I just throw a few frozen berries, coconut milk, spinach if I have it, and sometimes a little protein powder into the blender. Every once in a while I even skimp a bit on the liquid so it’s the consistency of sorbet! Delish I tell you!

There’s only one problem. If those deep, dark berry bits are left in the blender for more than two minutes they suddenly become impossible to clean. So as much as I want to ignore the mess and savor that yummy treat, I’ve been using this shortcut for cleaning the blender:

Blender Cleaning Shortcut

After using the blender, fill it half-way with water, squirt a small amount of soap in it and run the blender for a few seconds.

Empty.

Rinse.

Dry.

Done.

Easy. Peasy. A few seconds now saves a lot of headache later!

What tricks do you have for cleaning your blender?

My trick is almost as easy: I wait for my husband to clean it. ;-)

Just kidding. Well sort-of. I think he’ll like your idea better!

I can *so* relate to the sugar thing. Ironic, because I just gave it up today.

Along with my beloved Diet Dr. Pepper & Diet A&W.

Whew…soft drinks too! Big changes. I read all about the junk in soft drinks and how they can clean a dirty penny, etc. and finally realized they probably weren’t helping my insides…so thankfully soft drinks don’t even tempt me now. Good Luck on the sugar detox! :)

I use a stick blender with a detachable end (its also a stick whisk).
Use a tall glass to blend stuff if you’re fussy about getting everything fully blended, like for a smoothie. If its something like soup I just do it in the pan and keep some lumps.
Then detach the end and rinse it in the sink immediately.
The end is safe for the dishwasher, so it goes there next. Job done!
