Let’s continue the kitchen portion of the 31 Days to Make Cleaning a Habit series…
31 Days to Make Cleaning a Habit – Habit 10
Make Your Kitchen Spotless Every Night
If my kitchen is a mess, the entire house feels like a mess. Perhaps that’s because it’s in a central location in my home. Maybe it’s just because I spend so much time in there.
When I wake up to a messy kitchen, it seems like the mess is hanging over my head all day. But, if I walk into a spotless kitchen first thing in the morning, the entire day seems to go more smoothly!
Can you relate?
If we can begin to implement the next habit, it will hopefully give us a jump start each morning and encourage us to be productive in the areas that matter most!
Starting today, spend 5 minutes cleaning your kitchen every single night.
5 Minutes? YES!
If you implement the previous habit, it will certainly help with the final clean up process. But, even if you don’t, it can be done…I promise. There are certainly exceptions to the five minute time limit but overall it’s a very obtainable goal. I timed myself again last night just to make sure. One day soon, I’m going to video the process so you can see it in action! Until then, you can read about the step-by-step process for cleaning your kitchen in 5 minutes or less here.
Give it a try and let me know what you think!

I sure do need to do this. Every once in a while I get into the groove and am consistent about cleaning my kitchen, but that’s rare. Most of the time I have dirty dishes in the sink and/or dishes drying on the counter. 5 minutes sounds doable though. I might be able to trick myself into doing 5 minutes worth of cleaning. And of course the benefit is…if I do it every day it will never be overwhelming.
I AM the dishwasher and most nights it still only takes about ten minutes tops! The key for me is to have done a load of dishes before supper–and have put them away. (I’m home all day with a homeschooled child, so yeah, we dirty dishes.) But with the dish rack emptied, there’s no excuse for not getting right to it. If I haven’t done the dishes before supper, then I need to call a child in to dry for me. (Otherwise they air dry. I’m good with it.)
Look at you!! And without a dishwasher! Seriously, I feel for you b/c I might cry if mine stopped working. But, you have such a good attitude about it, I’m starting to think it might be ok :) 10 minutes is FANTASTIC!
I do the dishes etc,,,BUT I don’t put all the other stuff away. But I did when I was younger n had kids home! It makes me mad at myself that I Don’t do it anymore!, my kitchen was always very clean and it’s sooooo wonderful to walk into a clean kitchen anytime..but in the morning. It’s so terrific. Makes me wish I had a dish washer…
Hand washing dishes takes a while, especially when there are big pots and pans.
