Phones and other devices with touch screens have germs. We all know that. But, how many exactly?
Well, it’s been said that touch screens have 18 times the germs that the flush handle in a men’s restroom has.
One word….Eeew!!
Although those germs can’t be eliminated from our lives, we can certainly try to reduce them. Especially now that the cold season is upon us! So, today I’m going to share with you my favorite way to clean and disinfect small electronic devices. *First, let me warn you that this is just how I clean mine. I’ve never read this anywhere but I clean my phones regularly and have never ruined any touch screen devices. But I must still say, try at your own risk!
How to Clean and Disinfect a Phone, iPod, iPad or Other Touch Screen Device
- Turn the device off.
- Wet a cotton ball or Q-tip with rubbing alcohol until damp (not soaking).
- Wipe the device with the damp cotton ball.
- Let air dry.
The rubbing alcohol works so great because it acts as a disinfectant by eliminating the germs. Plus, it evaporates so excess moisture isn’t left on your phone. It’s worked perfectly for me!
How do you clean your cell phones and other touch screen devices?

I discovered quite accidentally that hand sanitizer does an excellent jog of cleaning my phone! I haven’t used it on my ipod touch yet but for the phone, it rocks!
Great tip for when you are out and about!
I use baby wipes on my iPhone and iPad. Both of them have plastic screen protectors, and the baby wipes do a great job of cleaning without loosening the protector, or causing damage to the phone.
Great tip! I just passed this on to my husband (our resident iPhone doctor) and I think he’ll give it a try today. My phone is seriously gross right now, so your timing is perfect.
I use a well-wrung-out Clorox wipe for my cell phone and computer keys. I don’t have an ipod so I’m not sure about that! ☺ btw that’s about the ONLY thing I use those wipes for
Windex makes wipes specifically for electronics.
very very helpful i droped my ipod in a muck of sticky urine in the public bathroom and it was excruciatingly disgusting
Can’t. Imagine. !*!*!
I use alcohol to clean off light switches door knobs phones chrome in the kitchen and Clorox wipes for any public phones I may use. I keep those in my purse.
