Do you need a natural alternative for washing pesticides and germs off your fruits and vegetables? Try one of these options.

Baking Soda

  • Shake some baking soda on your produce, scrub, and rinse.
  • To make a spray, mix equal parts baking soda and water in a spray bottle.
  • To wash a sink full of fruits and vegetables at once, put produce in a clean sink, fill with water, and mix baking soda in the water. Scrub produce, rinse and dry.

Vinegar

  • To make a spray, mix equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle.
  • To wash a sink full of fruits and vegetables at once, put produce in a clean sink, fill with water, and mix vinegar in the water. Use approximately 1/4 cup vinegar for ever gallon of water. Scrub produce, rinse and dry.

Liquid Dish Soap

  • To wash a sink full of fruits and vegetables at once, put produce in a clean sink, fill with water, and mix a very small amount of liquid dish soap (Dawn, Palmolive) into the water. Scrub produce, rinse well and dry.

I’m a wife. I’m a mom. And I don’t like to clean! With a house full of boys, though, cleaning is inevitable. That's why I've made it my mission to find the best organizing and cleaning tips. Hopefully, those tips will help us spend less time cleaning and more time with the ones we love.

I usually soak my vegetables in a bowl of water + vinegar. It looks like I haven’t been using enough vinegar, though. I still need to carefully check it – especially if it’s something like cauliflower. Good to know about the other options. It seems like you can do just about anything with baking soda and vinegar!
