Spring Cleaning: Look Up (Part 2)

in spring cleaning

Yesterday we discussed Spring Cleaning: Preparation (Part 1). I hope you were able to complete it or are at least planning to soon! Let me reiterate that everyone’s circumstance is different so go at your own pace and feel free to adjust this Spring Cleaning series to fit your needs.

Now, let’s get on to our next cleaning phase! Since the experts say to clean high to low and side to side we are going to start by “Looking Up” today.

Materials Needed:

  1. Duster
  2. Damp cloth
  3. Dry Cloth
  4. Spray bottle of water or all purpose cleaner
  5. Wood Polish (if you have wood furniture)
  6. Leather cleaner or saddle soap (if you have leather furniture)
  7. Fabric Stain Treater (if you have stains on your upholstery)
  8. Rubber glove (if you have pet hair and upholstery)
  9. Toothbrush (in case you need to scrub furniture or baseboards)
  10. Vacuum

Today’s Task: Look Up

Let’s dust and clean the following areas of our home starting at the top and working our way down.

  1. Crown Molding (dust)
  2. Ceiling Fans and light fixtures (dust fans but consider washing light fixtures)
  3. Doors (dust or wash doors)
  4. Window Treatments (vacuum with an attachment)
  5. Wall Hangings
  6. Bookcases
  7. Polish Wood Furniture
  8. Wipe down and vacuum furniture (leather/upholstery). Clean the base and under cushions. Maybe you’ll find a few quarters!
  9. Lampshades
  10. Baseboards (you may need to use the toothbrush for stuck on dirt). If you want to, save this task for tomorrow when we clean the floors)

Again, I will revise the Spring Cleaning lists as needed so send me suggestions in the comments to add to the list! I’ll add them to the final Google Document so you can edit and revise to fit your needs.

I’m a wife. I’m a mom. And I don’t like to clean! With a house full of boys, though, cleaning is inevitable. That's why I've made it my mission to find the best organizing and cleaning tips. Hopefully, those tips will help us spend less time cleaning and more time with the ones we love.

It’s one of those things we look at and notice but just never do anything about!

This is a great series girl! I’m totally motivated! We’re planning on washing windows and tackling the attic one day while Michael’s home this week.

I just stumbled upon your site from Works For Me Wednesday at We are THAT family…I am loving your tips and plan to start implementing them SOON! I get so frustrated that I can never seem to get this house really clean! I keep it pretty well picked up, but by the time I finish that, I either run out of time to scrub or dust or sweep or I turn around and there’s another mess to pick up! Maybe if I do it a little at a time I’ll feel like I’m making some progress! Thanks for the tips…I’ve added you to my favorites and will be back daily! ;)

I’m so glad!! If you have any tips you’d like to share, I’d love to feature them :) At my house there always seems to be another mess to clean up as soon as the cleaning is done also. Guess that’s just part of living!

Just out of curiosity…….How do you wash doors? Are you speaking of storm doors? Exterior doors? Interior doors? Do you use a wood cleaner or soap and water? Or do you just wipe with a damp cloth?

Thanks for your question! When I wrote about washing doors, I did kind of leave it general since there are so many types. But, I was speaking about all types of doors, internally and externally. I pesonally just wash them with a rag and all-purpose cleaner but if there are scuffs or other hard to clean areas, I would use something specifically geared towards that issue. I also follow up with glass cleaner on any glass. As far as wood doors, though, I’ve never had a real wood door that wasn’t painted. Just top of mind though, I love the idea of using a wood cleaner to condition it. Very smart!
