Does your bathroom drain clog up more than you’d prefer? Once is one too many times, right? Especially for someone who would rather spend their time playing with the kiddos instead of using a drain snake (gross!) or drain cleaning solution.

Since the average woman loses 50 to 100 strands of hair per day, the most probable culprit of a clogged drain is hair. Yes, you read that correctly. 50-100 strands! That’s a lot of hair! If even half that amount makes it down the bathroom pipes the potential for a clogged drain is huge. Seems like we need a way to minimize the amount of hair that makes it down the drain. So what can we do about it?
To prevent hair buildup in your drain, try this simple trick.
Anyone in your family who has long hair (meaning hair longer than an inch!) should brush their hair immediately before showering or taking a bath. That way the majority of the loose hair is caught in the brush rather than getting stuck in the drain.
How’s that for an easy and inexpensive way to keep the shower drain clog free?

Great tip! Thank you!
I’m the only one with long hair now (my daughter has moved out and my others are young men–even my husband, who is also ‘young’) but I’m always cleaning hair out of the drain trap of the shower or our sink. I’ll definitely try this idea, it’s a good one!

I cannot even begin to describe what a problem hair in the drain is here at our house! It’s ridiculous.
Great tip! We’ll start doing this tonight!

Huh. So obvious…why didn’t we ever think of this before?

I’ve had long hair for oh, 20 years or so. :>) Even with brushing my hair before washing, I still lose quite a bit. I keep an empty conditioner bottle in the shower, and after washing and conditioning and getting the loose ones out, I use my toes to pull the hair out of the drain and stuff it in the bottle. Since I’m still in the shower, it seems less yucky. I have waffled on posting about that for Frugal Fridays or Works for Me Wednesdays thinking it might be kinda gross. :>) Thanks for sharing!

What a useful tip! Who would have thought?
I wish I would have thought of that! Even though I’m preggers, I am still losing loads of hair and it makes a LOVELY clump (in the trash) every day, but I’m sure it gets down the sink, too! Great tip!
I feel like such a dunce! I totally need to be doing this. Everytime I take a shower, it looks like a little furry varmint crawled into the shower! Thanks for this tip!!!

I am going to try this! I fee like I lose TONS of hair every day. I have been fortunate not to have clogged drains but I am sure it is a matter of time! Thanks for sharing.
Great tip! I know my hair comes out a LOT in the tub as does dd’s. I’ll have to have us try it!

Another great trick to catch those locks that do escape the comb…use a piece of old or left over screen (yes from the window) cover the edges with tape Or ideally putty and place it over the opening of shower or tub. You’ll be amazed at how much you prevent from “going down the drain”.
Great idea! I’ll have to give it a try.
